Your Relationship Tip For This Week

Laurie Weiss, Ph.D. © 2004

Togetherness (Tip #96)

Expect major life changes to impact your
relationship. Having a baby, losing a job, getting
a new job, illness, death of a parent, retirement,
etc., may create a need to renegotiate almost
everything you thought was settled.

A major life change disrupts all your routines.
You need different kinds of support from a
partner, just at a time when your partner may be
least available to you. This is the time to be
extra sensitive to your partner, to be sure to ask
your partner for what you need, and to be ready to
negotiate.

Your weekend assignment, should you choose to
accept it:

If you are anticipating a major life change, have
a conversation about what you might need from each
other when the change occurs. If you have recently
experienced such a change, have a conversation
about what you need from each other right now.
